Mammoth Lakes for Elliott

Elliott's quilt is such a fun nod to the Pacific Northwest with big conifer trees towering over deep blue lakes. On the edges of so many trees are bright colored tips of either new growth or various mosses and lichens that add a whole other layer of color and texture throughout the forest. Hence, the deep tones and bright edging of the trees in this quilt. A speckled, deep blue fabric was chosen for the lake, highlighting the sparkly clear waters of a typical PNW mountain lake. A warm summer sun and pink hues of an evening sunset sky are featured in the top third of the quilt. As this was for friends, I curated the backing fabric to include creatures of the outdoors, including an owl (a great grey owl flew above us while backpacking in the Wallowas Mountains) and a unicorn!

This quilt was made for friends who were expecting their first child and now resides just down the street in Portland, OR.
